Let me ask you something. How many times have you turned on right wing media only to hear some pundit disputing global warming because it was colder or snowing in Texas or whatever?
If you're like me, it could be a monthly experience. I often thought about how these cold extremes are part of wide swinging weather patterns which come about as the decline phase of a trend wave. But recently while doing some research, I cam across a rather interesting documentary about a phenomenon called "Global Dimming".
Global what?
The documentary begins with an Englishman immigrant to Israel who took measurements of the solar energy blanketing Israel as they built their national irrigation project. Fifty years later he decided to revisit the experiment, and was amazed to find that the amount of solar energy had declined drastically since the first study.
What he posited was so contrary to the awakening of global warming hype, that he was completely ignored by the scientific community. But just as the truth will always out, his research was discovered by other climatologists who had begun to collate data from around the world, indicating that since the 1950s, the earth has indeed been 'dimming'. The culprit? Particulate pollution in the atmosphere reflecting sunlight back into the atmosphere, cooling the earth, causing famines and shifts in the global weather patterns and killing millions.
So it turns out that Global Warming is being offset by this Global Dimming, and when we treat for clean visible air, without reducing the underlying greenhouse gas emissions, we could be subjecting our planet to a double-whammy of a lethal temperature rise and a depleted atmosphere.
Watch this interesting documentary and help spread the word the next time one of these right wing ditto heads tells you it snowed in Las Vegas so there is not global warming.

In March 2001, George W. Bush refused to sign the Kyoto protocol on global warming. The large oil companies who control the American government are apparently more interested in their profits over the next few years than the health of the planet over the next million.

The average temperature of Earth's atmosphere reached the highest level ever recorded in the first two-thirds of 1998, jumping off the charts. Six of the first eight months of the year were the warmest since records began in 1866. The warning signs are clear.

Seeking alternatives for developing autonomous regeneration of the environment? Tired of pollution causing damaging weather changes because of the choices we citizens make? The climate is our commons; it is the root of the world's communities.
Deep thinking will be needed, depending on the dilemma facing Earth. Ecological and economic matters will suffer equally from our emission-based energies.
Energy has lasting environmental impacts, something environmentalist groups have warned about for years. Environmentalists are not just people passing moral judgment, they are just keenly aware that resources are finite.
Food, fossil fuels and the markets, are global as is their impact. How great it would be if we could green the earth and grow the economy? A cleaner environment contributes to better health, helping us begins by learning how industrial activities can merge into the ecologically sound lifestyle.
There is no limit on what we can do if we keep in mind local impact of our production with the moral clarity of our obligation to protect Mother Nature. A new organic Participatory ecology is forming; we can no longer turn blind eyes to the actions of those who pollute.
We can preserve future growth by recognizing the problems, establishing protocols, and setting benchmarks for recognizing pollution reduction. Instead of exploiting the earth's natural resources, we will rely on renewable resources to save our legacy.
If this makes sense to you, and you're serious about finding a solution for earth restoring technological advances, we'd love to hear your thoughts. Share with us ideas, problems, experiences with new technologies and environmental trends about restoring nature's right to clean water and abundant wildlife.
The Venus Project is dedicated to confronting all of these problems by actively engaging in the research, development, and application of workable solutions to today's problems
