Strange things are afoot in the ecosphere this past couple weeks, so Thinknovation will attempt to explain the possible deeper meaning of the causes of these mass bird and fish deaths with a deep dive through some science...

First, a little background is in order. In Clockwise, the time obsessed character played by John Cleese says "in order to not be lost, you have to know not only where you are, but when you are."

The where is easy. Right now we are standing on planet Earth, orbiting a yellow dwarf star as it rotates through a barred spiral galaxy called the Milky Way Galaxy, in an arm of it called the Local Spur. From where we are, when we look at the night sky and see the stars, we are looking at the neighboring arms across a great chasm in space, and a few local stars down the pipe, but like a ball in a hose, we can't see too far down the curve. This diagram below explains very well the positioning, and the sun's orbit, simply drawn as it is.

sun's orbit

So just like the earth rotates around the Sun, the Sun rotates around the galactic core, a trip that takes about 200 to 230 million years to make one complete orbit around. But the sun also makes another orbiting, one that is much more observable by the humans who have inhabited the planet's crust for at least 40,000 to 160,000 years so far. This is the trip the solar system takes as it travels around the tube of the local spur, in a trip illustrated below:

spiral galaxy arm

Now each rotation of the Sun as it spirals through our arm of the galaxy, called the "procession of the equinoxes" takes place every 25,870 to 24,500 years according to modern astronomers, and it is from India and the Vedic texts that the longest counting of this natural phenomenon has been recorded. Now you might not have ever heard of this equinoctial procession, but its more than likely that you have if you have ever checked your horoscope or birth sign. The Zodiac tracks the Sun's movement around the tube, in a trip that is 'spring like' in form.

Time lapse photo of the North Star

As the Sun orbits around the spiral arm, the Earth too is rotating around the Sun, with a slight wobble. This is beyond the scope of this article, so I will get to the two relevant points. The Earth has a north pole, which every Grand Age, points to a new North Star. A Grand Age is also known as an astrological age, and is approximately 2150 years-long, and we are now in the final second of the Piscean Age, heading into the legendary Age of Aquarius, and all metaphysical aspects aside, it is significant in that it is the closing of the 12th House of the Zodiac and the beginning of a new rotation.

zodiac procession

Traditionally this rotation is calibrated by the location of the sun in one of the twelve zodiacal constellations at the moment of the northern hemisphere vernal equinox around 21 March each year, and there is much contention between astronomers and astrologers as to when the Aquarian Age actually begins. Since it is not something that happens in a day and is gradationally occuring over hundreds of years, Albert Amao is understood to have the best theory on the transition, stating in Aquarian Age & The Andean Prophecy that the transition period between any two ages is based on two degrees' leeway at the point of intersection of two adjoining zodiacal constellations.

According to an entry in Wikipedia, that based on this transitional structure, "Amao has the Age of Aquarius commencing in 1948 with the transitional period from the Pisces age to Aquarian age covering the period 1876 to 2020. Amao follows the causative approach to the ages and believes that the energy from the arriving constellation of Aquarius is actually creating the changes on Earth that many astrologers associate with the Age of Aquarius."

So now that we know where we are, and when we are, we can look at some of the possible effects of these 'seasons of the sun'. You often hear a lot of flap from anti-climate change wingnuts that global warming is not man made because temperatures are also rising on the other planets and moons in the solar system. And they are right, but are cynically and despicably using this to dismiss the actual and real destruction that human industry is causing to the ecosphere. But this global warming throughout the solar system is a result of changes in the sun's season. Human pollution is just making it nastier.

For a proper perspective of the nature of this medium 'the universe' that we are all floating in, you need to look at this not as a physical universe, but as an electric universe, for this is the most common element unifying everything, a theory that is so revolutionary it even threatens the entire field of modern physics.

As the Sun transitions the precession into a 'new age', a phenomenon which our ancestors experienced less than 25,000 years ago, we can look to them for clues as to what might occur now. Some believe that a very advanced civilization existed then (advanced enough to have the technology to build the Egyptian pyramids - well in advance of the Egyptians) and they built them to survive the transition into the new age and preserve their collected knowledge in engravings covering them, long lost.

One ancient symbol of this "New Age" is the swastika, and can be found all the way back into prehistory, all around the world.

It is no coincidence that the Nazis used this symbol and called their rule "Das Neue Reich" (the new realm, or age). Hitler himself was very deep into the esoteric, as you can see from his library records and passion for books from before he seized power.

Nazi idiocy and New Age zeal aside, the significance of this ancient and venerated symbol has much more to do with the "four corners of the earth" also know as the ecliptic.

There is actually strong evidence that the Swastika actually represents the Big Dipper... In a book by Swami Vivekananda (a Vedic scholar) he notes that the Big Dipper is also called "The Plough" and that farm implements in India even today have Swastikas drawn on them, with the prayer "May your good harvest be as regular as the rotation of stars.

He explained that it's not only because the Big Dipper it is shaped like a plough, but that the movement of the Big Dipper in the sky is used to determine the best planting and harvesting seasons. This goes a long way to explain why the Swastika symbolizes"Good Harvest" and "Good Health," or "Svasta" in Sanskrit.

Big Dipper swastika

In Hinduism, the right-hand (clockwise) swastika is a symbol of the god Vishnu (Preserver of the Universe), while the left-hand (counterclockwise) swastika represents Shiva and Kali and her dance of death (destruction and disaster). The ancient images of Kali show her dancing, with blood dripping from her mouth, naked and only clad in a garland of severed human heads, on a rampaging killing spree, as Shiva lies supine at her feet. But what could reverse the direction of the Big Dipper? One can think of no better explanation than that of a cyclical pole-shift, such as the earth flipping on its axis, with north becoming south and vice-versa.

And the orientation of the earth's magnetic poles are very much influenced by their planetary mechanics, exactly as a spinning top's center of gravity fluctuates. Modern science, based in the Newtonian and Victorian traditions, influenced by biblical historical teachings, tells us that pole flips are very rare, and they are right. In that 180 degree flips only occur very infrequently in the geodesic records. But what about lesser movements? In fact, they fluctuate much more frequently. In fact, in the past century the south magnetic pole has drifted an estimated 1140 kilometers north-east - from the continent of the Antarctic to the open sea. Some experts conclude that, in 300 years, it could reach Adelaide.

An AP story from a few years back explains the results of a study you can't find discussed much since:

PARIS (AFP) - A reversal of the Earth's magnetic field, a rare but feared event due to the catastrophic effect it could have on human life, takes about 7,000 years to complete, according to a study. The so-called "flip" between the Earth's North and South poles occurs at long but unpredictable intervals, the most recent one occurring about 780,000 years ago.

The 180-degree switch occurs when there is a change in the circulation patterns in the molten iron which flows around the Earth's outer core and, like a dynamo, creates the magnetic field. The intensity of the field drops for a while before the circulation rhythm is established and the new polarity occurs.

But how long the switching process takes before the new poles become established has only been guessed at. Estimates have ranged from a couple of thousand years to 28,000.

US researcher Bradford Clement casts light on this area of uncertainty by analysing records taken from sedimentary samples drilled from various sites around the world. These samples, deposited at four different ages in Earth's history, have a residual magnetic echo from the magnetic field that prevailed at the time.

"These records yield an average estimate of about 7,000 years for the time it takes for the directional change to occur," Clement, of Florida International University, writes in Nature, the British science weekly. The big switchover does not take place in one swoop, though. It happens faster at the Equator and takes longer at higher latitudes -- the closer one gets to the poles.

The reason for this, says Clement, is that in the absence of the main North-South magnetic field, the Earth's core develops a weaker secondary field which has many "mini-poles" at the surface. Eventually the two main poles are established again, but on opposite sides of the planet, and restore their primacy.

No-one knows what would happen to life on Earth if the "flip" occurred today but the speculation borders on the doomsday. Many aspects of life today would be literally turned upside down, both for humans, given our dependence on magnets for navigation, and for migrating animals which use an inner compass.

We would also be more exposed to deadly busts of solar radiation, from which we are normally protected by Earth's magnetic field. And the loss of that shield would cause solar particles to smash into the upper atmosphere, warming it and potentially causing wrenching climate change.

There was a scare in 2002 after French geophysicist Gauthier Hulot discovered a weakening of Earth's magnetic field near the poles, which could be interpreted as an early sign that a "flip" is near.

Polarity reversals "seem to occur randomly in time," says University of Washington scientist Ronald Merrill. The shortest interval between "flips" is between 20,000 and 30,000 years, and the longest is a mighty 50 million years.{/xtypo_info}

So now that we've gone through this winding background, we reach the subject which sparked this ramble of an article: The massive die off of birds and fishes around the world this past couple weeks. First noticed on New Year's day when in the skies over Beebe, Arkansas started raining red-winged blackbirds. Over 5,000 birds fell on the town just before the stroke of midnight, all of them stone dead:

{xtypo_quote}The birds had fallen Friday night over a 1-mile area of Beebe, and an aerial survey indicated that no other dead birds were found outside of that area. The workers from U.S. Environmental Services started the cleanup Saturday. "I've been to Iraq and back and not seen nothing like this,” Beebe resident Jeff Drennan told local Fox16 News on Sunday.{/xtypo_quote}

And while it might seem like it's something out of the Book of Revelation, you have to admit that something like this is not a common occurrence, but certainly not unheard of. Scientists promptly came out to say that the birds likely died because of a lightning strike or a high altitude hail storm, not that that will deter the wingnuts trying to find signs that the End of Days are nigh upon us.

According to a report that came out the following Monday, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission spokesperson Keith Stephens said “the birds showed evidence of trauma in the breast tissue, with blood clots in the body cavity and a lot of internal bleeding.” Karen Rowe, an ornithologist for the game and fish commission, said "the incident is not that unusual and is often caused by a lightning strike or high-altitude hail.” There was even speculation that NYE fireworks spooked the birds who then flew around until exhaustion set in and they died in mass.

But what about the fish? Adding more fuel to the Armageddon fire, news followed that over 100,000 drum fish were found dead in the Arkansas river about 125 miles east of where the birds came crashing to the Earth. Where they exhausted fleeing fireworks too? According to CNN:

{xtypo_quote}Dead drum fish floated in the water and lined the banks of a 20-mile stretch of the Arkansas River near Ozark, about 125 miles northwest of Little Rock, said Keith Stephens of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. A tugboat operator discovered the fish kill Thursday night, and fisheries officials collected some of the dying animals to conduct tests.{/xtypo_quote}

What a scary way to start the last year before the legendary 2012. Here’s the the complete story from CNN:

According to experts these fish probably died as a result of disease, as it was only one species of fish. It’s also apparently not even that unusual for large numbers of fish to die off, though usually not in such high numbers, and many scientist piped in that it could have also been a susceptibility to the cold snap, especially as it began happening all over the world:

Fish are turning up dead and birds are dropping from the sky, with more birds falling from the sky in Louisiana, and a carpet of dead snapper in New Zealand. But can it really just be fireworks, cold or disease? I mean, after reports of up to 15 tons of dead fish turning up in a Brazilian river, where it's far from cold. And here's a clip on massive bird deaths in Louisiana:

And even more birds falling from the sky in Sweden:

One possible explanation to these sudden and not quite satisfactorily explained die offs might be changes affecting the Earth's electromagnetic field. NASA has reported that the Earth's magnetic field is changing. They report that compass needles in Africa are drifting about 1 degree per decade and that globally the Earth's magnetic field has weakened 10% since the 19th century. When this was mentioned by researchers at a recent meeting of the American Geophysical Union, many newspapers carried the story, with a typical headline reading "Is Earth's magnetic field collapsing?"

If it is, it goes a long way to explain the massive die off of these migratory birds and fishes. "What is so surprising is that rapid, almost sudden, changes are taking place in the Earth's magnetic field," said a recent study's co-author Nils Olsen, a geophysicist at the Danish National Space Center in Copenhagen when speaking with National Geographic.

So maybe the end is near, at least nearer than we think, and the signs are there for all who look, to the skies, to the past and to what's happening around us now. The question remains, what do we do about it? Does this possibly impending planetary change explain our global elite's complete and callous disregard for the health of not only our environment but our economies?

Do they, with their fingers controlling the strings of society's resources and historical legacies know something more that they're not sharing? Are they preparing for a global catastrophe that they believe will wipe out the problems of overpopulation and pollution? Perhaps that's a subject best left for another day... if we have them. In the meantime, I'll be hunkered down in my basement with my kitties and plenty of beer, waiting out the econocataclysm.
